Retractable Screen Door Cost in San Diego (2026)
By the San Diego Mobile Screens team · Updated · 7 min read
A retractable screen door rolls into a slim housing beside your door when you don't need it and pulls across when you do. Most companies won't give you a price until they visit. We post ours. Here is what a retractable screen door costs from us, what is included, what can change the number, and how the brands you will see differ.
What we charge
| Door | Price | Install time |
|---|---|---|
| Single door | $699 | About 45 minutes |
| French door set (two screens) | $1,299 | About 90 minutes |
| Replacing another brand with a Roll-A-Way | $699 single, $1,299 French | Same as above |
Both prices include the measure, the unit, the install and a test of the full operation. The measure visit is free and there is no obligation. A retractable door is well over the minimum for mobile service, so there is nothing else to add.

What you get for the price
- A Roll-A-Way unit. We are an authorized Roll-A-Way dealer. The housing is about 2 inches wide and mounts on the side of the door frame with a few small screws, so nothing is cut or routed.
- Five colors. White, Champagne Beige, Bronze, Black and Desert Sand, with the housing, tracks and end caps matched. See colors and styles.
- A fit check before you commit. We need about 2 inches of flat surface beside the door to mount the housing. We confirm that at the measure.
- A mesh you can replace. If the mesh wears out, the cassette swaps out without removing the housing, which costs much less than a new unit.
- Our workmanship promise. It covers the install, with no time limit on our workmanship.
What can change the price
Single or French. That is the big one. A French door set is two screens that meet in the middle, each working on its own, so it is $1,299 instead of $699. Our French door screen options page covers the choices for double doors.
Your opening. The posted prices cover a standard single or French door opening. If something about your opening doesn't suit a standard install, your tech tells you at the measure, before you order.
Ordering. When your size and color are in stock, we install the same day we measure. When they aren't, we order your unit from Roll-A-Way and come back to install it when it arrives. The price is the same either way. French door sets and other made-to-order units take a deposit when the order is placed.
How it compares with other screen doors
| Door | Price | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Retractable (Roll-A-Way) | $699 single, $1,299 French | Front entries and French doors where you want the screen out of sight |
| Sliding screen door | From $329 | Patio sliders |
| Swinging screen door | $599 | Busy entries and pets |
| Security screen door (Tru-View) | Quoted at your home | Leaving the main door open with the screen locked |

Roll-A-Way vs. other retractable brands
You will see a few names when you shop for a retractable screen. We install Roll-A-Way, so that is the one we can tell you the most about. Here is what the others are, in general terms, and what to ask any installer.
The names you will see
- Roll-A-Way. Retractable screens for single doors, French doors and windows. It is the brand we install and service, at the prices above.
- Phantom Screens. A maker of retractable screens for doors, plus larger screens for patios and wide openings, including motorized ones. Sold and installed through its own dealers.
- Mirage. A maker of retractable screen doors for single, double and sliding doors, sold through dealers.
- Larson. Best known for storm doors. Some of its storm and screen doors have a screen that rolls up into the door itself rather than into a housing at the side.
How retractable screens differ
- Where it rolls. Most door screens roll sideways into a housing on the frame. Some roll up into the door or into a box at the top of the opening.
- How it closes. Some catch on a magnet, some on a latch. Try it: you want a screen that closes with one hand and stays shut.
- Manual or motorized. Door screens are usually pulled by hand. Motorized screens are mostly for wide patio openings.
- Who fixes it later. Ask who services the brand near you and whether the mesh can be replaced on its own.
Already have another brand?
We only work on Roll-A-Way, so we can't repair other brands. We can replace one with a Roll-A-Way at the same posted prices: $699 for a single door or $1,299 for a French set. If yours has stopped rolling back, start with retractable screen door not retracting.
Questions to ask any installer
- Is the price installed, and what does it include?
- Do you confirm the fit before I order?
- Who services it later, and can the mesh be replaced on its own?
- What does your own workmanship promise cover, and for how long?
- Is my size and color in stock, or does it have to be ordered?
Is a retractable screen door worth it?
It is worth it when you want airflow without a screen in the way the rest of the time: a front entry you want to keep looking good, or French doors you open on warm evenings. It is the wrong pick for a door a big dog pushes through every day; a swinging screen door with pet-resistant mesh holds up better there.
Common questions
How much does a retractable screen door cost installed?
We charge $699 for a single Roll-A-Way retractable screen door and $1,299 for a French door set, measured and installed at your home in San Diego County.
Can you repair my Phantom, Mirage or Larson screen?
We only install and service Roll-A-Way, so we don't repair other brands. We can replace another brand's screen with a Roll-A-Way at our posted prices: $699 for a single door or $1,299 for a French door set.
How long does a retractable screen door take?
If your size and color are in stock, we install the same day we measure. If not, we order your unit and come back to install it when it arrives. The install itself takes about 45 minutes for a single door and about 90 minutes for a French set.
Do I pay a deposit?
Yes, for a French door set or any door we order for you: a deposit is due when the order is placed, and the balance when the work is done.
Are retractable screens good with dogs?
Not with big dogs that push on doors. Retractable screens use a lighter mesh than fixed screens. For a busy pet door, a swinging screen door with pet-resistant mesh holds up better.
