Window Screen Cost in San Diego (2026)
By the San Diego Mobile Screens team · Updated · 6 min read
Most window screen jobs come down to two prices. We post them, so you can add up your house before anyone comes out. Here is what a window screen costs from us, when a rescreen is the better buy and when it isn't, what solar and pet mesh add, and what changes the number. Every price is also on our pricing page.
What we charge
| Screen | Price |
|---|---|
| Standard window rescreen (existing frame, fiberglass mesh) | $45 |
| Standard window screen (new custom frame + mesh) | $55 |
| Pet-resistant, solar or UltraVue mesh | +$20 per window screen |
| Double-hung, casement, pull-pin or other non-standard screen | Quoted by your tech |
| Retractable window screen | Quoted at your home |
Window prices are for standard screens
Double-hung, casement, pull-pin and other non-standard window screens are priced differently. Your tech will quote them by phone or on-site. Not sure what you have? Send us a photo.
$145 minimum for mobile service
We bring the workshop to you and finish on-site, usually in one visit.
The price is the installed price. It covers coming to your home, measuring, the frame and mesh, and the work. There is no extra charge to come out or to measure.
Rescreen or new screen?
A rescreen ($45) keeps your frame. We take out the old mesh and spline, put in new mesh, and pull it tight so it sits flat with no wrinkles. It is the right call when the frame is in good shape, and on most San Diego homes it is.
A new screen ($55) is a new frame, cut and built to your window at our mobile workshop, right at your home, with new mesh. It is the right call when the frame is the problem, or when the screen is missing and there is nothing to rescreen.
The difference is $10 a window. Not sure which kind of window screen you have? See which window screen do I have.
When a rescreen isn't worth it
New mesh in a bad frame is money spent twice. Skip the rescreen and get a new screen when:
- The frame is bent or bowed. Mesh can't pull tight on a frame that isn't straight, and a bent screen leaves gaps bugs get through.
- The aluminum is corroded. Near the coast, salt air pits the frame. Once it is chalky or eaten through at the spline groove, new spline has nothing solid to grip.
- The corners are cracked or loose. The frame flexes and the screen racks out of shape.
- It doesn't fit anymore. A screen that falls out, rattles or leaves light around the edges needs a frame built to the window.
Your tech checks each frame at the visit and tells you which ones are worth rescreening before he starts. For more on reading a frame, see screen repair vs. replacement.
Solar and pet mesh upcharges
Standard fiberglass mesh is in every price above. The three upgrades each add +$20 per window screen, whether it is a rescreen or a new screen:
| Mesh | Good for | Rescreen | New screen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiberglass (standard) | Most windows | $45 | $55 |
| Pet-resistant | Low windows pets reach | $65 | $75 |
| Solar | Hot south- and west-facing windows | $65 | $75 |
| UltraVue | View windows | $65 | $75 |
Pet-resistant mesh
A heavier vinyl-coated polyester that stands up to claws and noses much better than fiberglass. It is a little darker to look through. Use it on the windows your dog or cat can reach, not the whole house. See pet screens.
Solar mesh
A denser weave that cuts the sun's heat and glare before it reaches the glass, so a hot room stays cooler. The trade-off is a darker view, like looking through sunglasses. Put it on the windows that bake in the afternoon. See solar screens.
Our mesh guide compares all four meshes side by side.
What changes the price
- The kind of window screen. $45 and $55 are for standard screens that pop in and out of a flat frame. Double-hung, casement, pull-pin and other non-standard window screens use different frames and hardware, so your tech quotes them by phone or at your home.
- Rescreen or new frame. $10 a window, and the frame decides it.
- The mesh. +$20 per window for pet-resistant, solar or UltraVue.
- How many screens you do at once. A visit has a $145 minimum, so one or two screens cost the same visit as three. Doing every screen that needs it in one visit gets the most out of it.
- Retractable window screens. Screens that roll out of sight on casement windows are made for each window, so we measure and quote them at your home. See retractable window screens.
Worked examples
Here is how a few common visits add up from the posted prices. If the work comes to less than the $145 minimum, the visit is $145; if it comes to more, you pay the total.
| Job | Math | You pay |
|---|---|---|
| One standard rescreen | $45, under the minimum | $145 |
| Four standard rescreens | 4 × $45 | $180 |
| Three new standard screens in pet-resistant mesh | 3 × ($55 + $20) | $225 |
| Five standard rescreens, two of them in solar mesh | 5 × $45 + 2 × $20 | $265 |
| Six standard rescreens + two new standard screens | 6 × $45 + 2 × $55 | $380 |
| Ten standard rescreens | 10 × $45 | $450 |
How to get an exact price
Call or text us how many screens you have and whether they are standard. A photo by text helps when you aren't sure. We price standard screens on the phone, and if your tech finds a double-hung or other non-standard screen at the house, he tells you the price before he starts. We'll call you back within 1 business day. Most visits are booked within two weeks, often sooner in winter.
Estimates are free. Window screens are built and installed in the one visit and paid for when the work is done, with no card fee. No time limit on our workmanship: if something we built isn't right because of our work, we come back and fix it.
Common questions
How much does it cost to rescreen a window in San Diego?
$45 for a standard window screen with fiberglass mesh, done at your home. Those prices are for standard window screens. Double-hung, casement, pull-pin and other non-standard window screens are priced differently, and your tech will quote them by phone or on-site. A visit has a $145 minimum.
How much is a new window screen?
$55 for a new standard window screen: a new frame built to your window, with fiberglass mesh, installed. That is $10 more than a rescreen.
Do solar and pet-resistant mesh cost more?
Yes, +$20 per window screen for pet-resistant, solar or UltraVue mesh. A standard rescreen with one of them is $65, and a new standard screen with one is $75.
Should I rescreen or get a new screen?
Rescreen when the frame is straight, solid and still fits the window. Get a new screen when the frame is bent, corroded, cracked at the corners or loose in the window. The new frame is only $10 more.
Can I get steel security mesh on my windows?
No, we don't offer security window screens. We do install Tru-View security screen doors, and for windows that take a beating from pets, pet-resistant mesh is the tough option.
